Media icon and political commentator, Dr. Reuben Abati, honoured by old classmates, Egba chiefs, and dignitaries at a colourful Sunday evening celebration in Abeokuta alongside his wife, Kikelomo.

Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, came alive on Sunday evening as distinguished journalist, broadcaster, and political analyst, Dr. Reuben Sunday Abati, was honoured at a private reception themed “Celebrating Sunday on Sunday.”

The uniquely coined theme, according to the organisers, was inspired by the coincidence that “Sunday” forms part of his name and that the event took place on a Sunday, a fitting reflection of celebration, gratitude, and legacy.

Dr. Abati, who arrived at the venue accompanied by his elegant wife, Mrs. Kikelomo Abati, received a warm ovation as guests cheered and cameras flashed to welcome the celebrated media figure.

The event brought together prominent Egba chiefs, politicians, family members, and old classmates from Lisabi Grammar School, who all described Dr. Abati as a hardworking, fearless, and globally respected Nigerian who has not only excelled in journalism but also projected Nigeria’s image positively on the international stage.

Guests shared heartfelt tributes, with prayers offered for continued grace, wisdom, and long life. The high chiefs of Egbaland were visibly delighted as they surrounded Dr. Abati to bless him, acknowledging his contributions to national discourse and his Egba heritage.

The evening was filled with warmth, laughter, and nostalgia, as attendees wined, dined, and danced to classic old-school tunes, reminiscing about the celebrant’s journey from the classroom to the global stage.

The well-organised reception featured quality souvenirs, heartfelt speeches, and vibrant camaraderie, leaving guests with cherished memories of a night that beautifully blended prestige, friendship, and culture truly a day of “Celebrating Sunday on Sunday.”
