Nigeria has emerged as a global frontrunner in the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly in education, the workplace, and entrepreneurship, according to a new report jointly released by Google and global research firm Ipsos. The findings position Nigeria among the most AI-engaged nations worldwide, highlighting the country’s growing digital confidence and innovation-driven mindset.
The report reveals that Nigerians are not only highly aware of AI tools but are also actively integrating them into daily activities, ranging from learning and skills development to business creation and productivity at work. Young people, freelancers, entrepreneurs, and small business owners are leading this rapid adoption, using AI-powered platforms to improve efficiency, expand opportunities, and compete in the global digital economy.
According to the study, Nigeria’s strong performance is driven by a youthful population, widespread mobile internet usage, and an entrepreneurial culture that quickly embraces technology to solve problems. Many Nigerians reported using AI for tasks such as content creation, research, coding, marketing, customer engagement, and learning new skills, often leveraging free or low-cost tools to overcome resource constraints.
The Google–Ipsos report also notes that AI is increasingly reshaping how Nigerians learn, with students and professionals turning to AI-powered tools for personalized learning, exam preparation, and career advancement. In the workplace, employees are using AI to automate routine tasks, boost creativity, and enhance decision-making, while entrepreneurs are applying it to scale businesses, reach new markets, and reduce operational costs.
Despite the impressive adoption rate, the report highlights the need for continued investment in digital skills training, responsible AI use, and supportive policies to ensure long-term sustainability and inclusivity. Google emphasized its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s AI ecosystem through training programs, digital tools, and partnerships aimed at empowering individuals and businesses.
The findings reinforce Nigeria’s rising profile as a technology-forward nation in Africa and beyond, suggesting that with the right support and regulation, AI could play a transformative role in accelerating economic growth, job creation, and innovation across the country.
