Nicki Minaj Explains Why She Supports Donald Trump, Citing “Bullying” and Religious Freedom

Rapper says her political stance was shaped by empathy, personal experiences, and a sense of calling, despite backlash from fans and the entertainment industry

Rapper Nicki Minaj has opened up about her public support for former U.S. President Donald Trump, offering a candid explanation that has reignited debate across social media and the entertainment world.

In a recent interview, the 43-year-old Grammy-winning artist said her shift toward conservative politics was not driven by global events or opposition figures, but by what she described as persistent “bullying” directed at Trump during his presidential campaign. According to Minaj, watching the repeated criticism and what she called misinformation surrounding Trump struck a deeply personal chord.

“Religious freedom is something that’s very important to me,” Minaj said when asked what influenced her political alignment. “But if I’m being honest, President Trump… when I saw how he was being treated over and over and over, I just couldn’t handle it.”

The rapper explained that the intense criticism aimed at Trump reminded her of her own experiences in the public eye. She claimed that the treatment he received felt familiar, saying she had endured similar attacks throughout her career.

“I felt that same bullying in this man’s campaign, and all of the lying,” Minaj said. “I felt that had been done to me for so many years, and I was watching it happen to someone else in real time. I didn’t think he deserved it, and it made me think, I can’t do this anymore.”

Minaj added that during the most recent presidential campaign, she felt compelled to speak out, believing that events she had anticipated were beginning to unfold. She suggested that her increased political engagement might be tied to a deeper purpose.

In one segment of the interview, she was asked by a former Trump administration official whether there was a specific moment that triggered her vocal stance on political and social issues. Minaj responded by hinting at a long-held belief that she was meant to play a role beyond music.

“I had this strong premonition my whole life that I had a second job to do,” she said, adding that a recent personal experience further pushed her in that direction. “Sometimes people can push you so much that they push you all the way into your next calling.”

Minaj’s comments have continued to draw mixed reactions, with supporters praising her honesty and independence, while critics argue that her stance is controversial given Trump’s polarizing legacy. Regardless, the rapper has remained unapologetic, emphasizing that her views stem from personal conviction rather than public pressure.

The interview underscores Nicki Minaj’s growing willingness to engage openly in political discourse, even at the risk of alienating parts of her fan base, signaling a new chapter in her public life beyond music.
