Old students gather in Ogun State to reconnect, celebrate shared memories, and begin a collective effort to give back to their former school
Members of the 2009 graduating set of Owode High School, Owode Egba in Ogun State, have held their first ever reunion gathering 17 years after leaving secondary school, marking a memorable moment of reconnection, reflection, and renewed commitment to supporting their alma mater.
The historic reunion, organised under the Owode High School Old Students Association, brought together former classmates who had not seen or spoken to each other in many years. The get together took place on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Marrok Hotel in Siun, Ogun State, where members reunited in an atmosphere filled with joy, nostalgia, and renewed friendship.
The reunion was coordinated by Moshood Oyekan, who spearheaded the initiative to reconnect members of the 2009 set and revive their shared bond after nearly two decades. According to him, many of the former students had gradually lost contact after leaving school, making the reunion an important opportunity to rebuild relationships and create a platform for collaboration.
Oyekan explained that the primary objective of the gathering goes beyond social reconnection. He noted that the group aims to organise itself into a strong network capable of supporting Owode High School and assisting current students who may be facing financial or material challenges.
He said the association plans to reach out to less privileged students in the school by providing basic necessities such as school uniforms, socks, and other essential learning materials. According to him, the initiative is part of a broader mission to give back to the institution that played a major role in shaping their lives and preparing them for adulthood.
Speaking on the success of the reunion, Oyekan expressed happiness and gratitude to all members who supported the initiative and made the event possible. He described the gathering as a significant milestone for the 2009 set, noting that it was the first time many of the classmates had come together since graduating from secondary school 17 years ago.
He also revealed that plans are underway to create a dedicated WhatsApp group that will bring together all members of the set, including those who could not attend the reunion. The platform will help coordinate future activities, strengthen communication among members, and expand the association’s impact.
Other members who served in executive roles during the organisation of the reunion include Ogweje Michael, Temitope Abisayo, Akinyemi Segun, and Shoola Seyi, who worked alongside the coordinator to ensure the success of the event.
The group also expressed appreciation to the owner of Marrok Hotel for supporting the gathering and contributing to the success of the event. The hotel owner, who also serves as the Councillor of Obafemi Owode Local Government and is reportedly preparing to contest for a seat in the House of Assembly in the 2027 elections, was commended for providing support including complimentary drinks during the reunion.
Members described the reunion as a memorable experience filled with laughter, storytelling, and reflections on their shared journey from students to professionals, entrepreneurs, and community members contributing to society in different ways.
As part of acknowledging the collective support that made the event possible, the coordinator and members of the association extended their appreciation to all individuals who contributed towards the reunion.

The coordinator once again thanked all contributors and participants, emphasising that the reunion marks only the beginning of what the group hopes will become a long term commitment to unity, mutual support, and community service.
Members of the Owode High School 2009 set are also encouraging other former students who have not yet joined the initiative to become part of the growing network. Interested alumni are invited to connect with the coordinator, Moshood Oyekan, as the group continues to expand its activities and pursue its mission of strengthening the school and supporting current students.
With renewed unity and a clear purpose, the Owode High School 2009 set says it is determined to transform the energy of the reunion into sustained action that will positively impact both its members and the next generation of students at their beloved alma mater.
