Governor Dapo Abiodun has approved a weekly day off and a ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance for civil servants in Ogun State, as part of efforts to improve workers’ welfare amid current economic challenges.
The governor said the initiative is designed to reduce the financial burden on workers, particularly in the face of rising transportation costs, while also promoting better work life balance within the state’s public service. The weekly day off is expected to provide civil servants with additional time for rest and personal activities.
State officials noted that the transport allowance will be paid monthly to eligible workers to support daily commuting expenses, which have increased due to prevailing economic conditions. The measure is also seen as part of broader efforts to boost morale and productivity among government employees.
Labour stakeholders have welcomed the development, describing it as a timely intervention that acknowledges the realities faced by workers. They also expressed hope that similar welfare policies could be adopted in other states to cushion the impact of rising living costs.
The Ogun State Government reaffirmed its commitment to prioritising the wellbeing of its workforce, stating that motivated and supported civil servants are essential for effective governance and service delivery.
