Ogun Veterinary Association Unveils Activities for World Veterinary Day 2026

Media engagements and novelty football match scheduled to highlight role of veterinarians in public health and food safety

The Nigeria Veterinary Medical Association, Ogun State Chapter, has announced a lineup of activities to mark the 2026 World Veterinary Day celebration, themed “Veterinarians: Guardians of Food and Health.”

According to the programme released by the association, the celebration will feature a series of media engagements aimed at raising awareness about the critical role veterinarians play in ensuring food safety, animal health, and public health. The outreach will begin with a radio appearance on Family FM on Tuesday, April 21 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., conducted in Yoruba language. This will be followed by a session on OGBC’s Health Line programme on Wednesday, April 22 at 4:15 p.m.

Further engagements include a broadcast on Sweet FM on Thursday, April 23 at 5:30 p.m., also in Yoruba, as well as appearances on OCTV on Saturday, April 25 at 8:30 a.m. and Rock City FM, with details of the latter expected to be confirmed.

As part of efforts to promote community interaction and awareness, the association will also host a novelty football match on Saturday, April 25 at 3:00 p.m. at the African Church Grammar School football pitch. The event is expected to bring together veterinarians, stakeholders, and members of the public in a relaxed and engaging atmosphere.

The World Veterinary Day celebration is observed globally to recognise the contributions of veterinarians to animal welfare, food security, and public health. The Ogun State chapter noted that this year’s activities are designed to educate the public while celebrating professionals dedicated to safeguarding both animal and human health.
