The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has advised corps members not to depend solely on their monthly allowance, popularly known as "allawee," but to embrace entrepreneurship and acquire income-generating skills.
Speaking to corps members, the NYSC DG encouraged them to take advantage of the scheme's Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to build businesses and create sustainable sources of income.
He stressed that developing entrepreneurial and vocational skills would better prepare young graduates for life after the service year, especially in Nigeria's challenging economic environment.
According to him, self-reliance and innovation are essential for reducing unemployment and improving financial stability among young Nigerians.
The NYSC boss also urged corps members to remain committed to personal development, explore business opportunities and make productive use of their service year beyond earning the monthly allowance.
He maintained that entrepreneurship remains one of the most effective pathways to financial independence and long-term career success.
