President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has defended the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), insisting that the electoral body remains neutral and has never intimidated any political party or candidate.
Speaking on concerns raised by some opposition figures, Tinubu dismissed allegations of bias, suggesting that their apprehensions may be rooted in internal uncertainties rather than the actions of INEC.
"INEC is neutral. They've never intimidated anybody. If political opponents are crying wolves, maybe they're afraid of their own shadows and the uncertainties in the company they keep — not me," the President said.
The remarks come amid ongoing political debates over the credibility of Nigeria's electoral process and preparations for future elections, with the President reaffirming confidence in the nation's electoral institutions.
