Security expert Moruf Yusuf, popularly known as Ojogbon, has advised individuals and business owners to adopt safe cash-handling practices, warning that careless financial habits can expose people to theft, robbery and other security threats.
The advice was contained in Series #98 of The Secure Mind, his daily security awareness campaign dedicated to promoting practical safety and crime prevention.
According to Yusuf, displaying large sums of money in public, counting cash openly or drawing unnecessary attention to one's finances significantly increases personal security risks.
He advised members of the public to avoid counting cash where others can see, while those carrying large amounts of money should keep it out of sight, vary their routines where necessary and make use of secure banking or electronic payment channels whenever possible.
Yusuf also encouraged business owners to establish proper cash-handling procedures, including limiting access to cash, maintaining internal controls and making regular bank deposits to minimise the risk of loss.
He stressed that personal security goes beyond protecting physical cash, noting that safeguarding personal financial information and avoiding unnecessary public exposure are equally important.
"The safest money is the one that does not attract unnecessary attention."
