President Bola Tinubu has said his administration will revive Nigeria's moribund refineries, but warned that their success will be measured by productivity rather than mere activities.
Tinubu made the statement on Thursday while speaking on efforts to strengthen Nigeria's domestic refining capacity and reduce reliance on imported petroleum products.
The President stressed that reviving the refineries must go beyond reopening facilities or recording administrative milestones, insisting that they must operate efficiently and produce measurable results.
According to him, the government will not return to the practice of maintaining refineries that consume public resources without delivering adequate output.
He said productivity would remain a key consideration in assessing the performance of the revived facilities.
The planned revival of moribund refineries is part of broader efforts by the Federal Government to strengthen local refining capacity, improve energy security and reduce Nigeria's dependence on imported refined petroleum products.
Tinubu maintained that the objective is to ensure that public investments in the oil and gas sector translate into tangible economic benefits for Nigerians.
