Defence Minister Christopher Musa Calls for Military Training for Nigerians

Minister of Defence says military training could help Nigerians develop discipline, endurance and a better understanding of the demands faced by members of the armed forces

Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has called for Nigerians to undergo military training, saying such experience would help citizens understand the demands of military service and develop greater endurance.

Musa made the remarks while speaking about the importance of discipline, resilience and national security awareness.

“Every Nigerian should undergo military training to understand what it means to stay hungry, work days without sleep and learn what endurance means,” the minister said.

According to Musa, exposure to military-style training could help Nigerians better appreciate the physical and mental demands associated with serving in the armed forces.

Military training typically involves discipline, physical conditioning, teamwork, leadership development and the ability to operate under demanding conditions. Such training is designed to prepare personnel to function effectively in challenging environments and respond to security threats.

The minister’s comments come amid continued discussions about national security, civic responsibility and the relationship between citizens and the country’s security institutions.

Nigeria has continued to face various security challenges, requiring sustained efforts by the armed forces and other security agencies. Musa has frequently emphasised the importance of strengthening national security capabilities and supporting personnel who operate in difficult conditions.

His call for broader military training for citizens has also drawn attention to the potential role of structured training in promoting discipline, resilience and greater awareness of national security responsibilities.

Musa’s statement reflects his view that Nigerians would have a better understanding of the sacrifices and challenges associated with military service if they experienced aspects of the training themselves.
