Nigerian Afrobeats star Oluwatobiloba Anidugbe, popularly known as Kizz Daniel, has revealed that the death of his mother earlier this year was responsible for his recent break from music activities.
The singer, also known as Vado D’Great, made the disclosure on Friday while responding to a fan on X who suggested that he had taken a break because he was working on a new album.
Kizz Daniel clarified that his absence was not related to an album project, explaining that he needed time away from music following the loss of his mother.
“I paused for my Mom, not an album… Lost her this year, but I gotta keep moving for the rest of the family… sorry I came late this year,” the singer said.
His revelation prompted an outpouring of condolences and messages of support from fans, many of whom expressed sympathy over the loss.
The singer has experienced other significant personal losses, including the death of his father in 2015 and one of his triplets in 2021. He has also previously spoken about how personal experiences and bereavement have influenced his music.
Despite the difficult period, Kizz Daniel indicated that he is moving forward and has resumed his music activities. He released his first single of 2026, “Owo Oluwa,” on September 16, featuring Young Jonn, Krizbeatz and Wave Choir.
The singer apologised to his fans for his delayed return to the music scene, while making it clear that his time away was driven by a personal family loss rather than preparations for a new album.
