Presidency: Tinubu Doesn’t Need to Be in Abuja to Perform His Duties

The Presidency has defended President Bola Tinubu’s continued stay outside Abuja, saying his physical presence in the Federal Capital Territory is not required for him to discharge his constitutional responsibilities.

The statement comes amid public attention over the President’s travel schedule and his expected return to Nigeria following an extended stay abroad.

According to the Presidency, Tinubu remains able to perform his official duties while away from Abuja, with modern communication and administrative systems allowing the President to receive briefings, make decisions and engage with government officials remotely.

The Presidency has previously maintained that the President remains actively involved in governance during his travels and continues to receive updates on developments across the country.

The clarification follows questions from members of the public and political commentators about the length of the President’s absence from Abuja and whether it could affect the running of government.

The Presidency’s position is that the location from which the President performs his duties does not, by itself, prevent him from exercising his powers and responsibilities as Nigeria’s President.

Tinubu’s administration has continued to conduct government business during his travels, with ministers, senior government officials and presidential aides handling various official engagements.

The Presidency has also said the President’s movements should not be interpreted as an indication that governance has been suspended or that official responsibilities have been abandoned.

The latest statement is expected to further clarify the government’s position as attention remains focused on Tinubu’s travel schedule and his return to Nigeria.
