A 10-year-old boy from Greenfield, Indiana, in the United States, died by suicide after his family said he had endured prolonged bullying at school over his appearance.
The boy, identified as Sammy Teusch, was reportedly subjected to repeated verbal and physical bullying, according to his family.
Sammy’s parents said the bullying initially focused on his glasses before shifting to comments about his teeth. They alleged that the harassment continued for an extended period and included physical incidents.
According to the family, one of the reported incidents occurred on a school bus, where Sammy was allegedly physically assaulted.
His parents also said they contacted the school approximately 20 times to raise concerns about the bullying and seek intervention, but claimed the situation did not improve.
Speaking about the loss, Sammy’s father described the experience as devastating, saying he held his son in his arms after his death.
The family’s account has renewed discussions about the impact of persistent bullying on children and the responsibility of schools, parents and communities to respond to reports of harassment and abuse.
The circumstances surrounding Sammy’s death and the family’s allegations have been widely reported in the United States. The case has also drawn attention to the need for stronger measures to identify and address bullying before it escalates.
