Nigeria’s Vice President says he missed the warmth, wit and friendly banter shared with his relatives during a meeting at a teaching hospital in Borno State.
Vice President Kashim Shettima has expressed delight at reuniting with his Fullo cousins during a visit to Maiduguri, Borno State, describing the encounter as an opportunity to reconnect with family and relive cherished moments.
Shettima disclosed this in a post on his official Facebook page on Friday, October 23, 2026, following his meeting with the relatives at Kashim Ibrahim University Teaching Hospital in Maiduguri.
Reflecting on the reunion, the Vice President said he had missed the “warmth, wit and good-natured banter” he shared with his cousins.
His remarks offered a personal glimpse into his family relationships, highlighting the importance of maintaining close ties with relatives despite the demands of public office.
The meeting also underscored the value of family connections in providing a sense of belonging and continuity, particularly for individuals whose official responsibilities often require extensive travel and demanding schedules.
Shettima, a native of Borno State, previously served as governor of the state from 2011 to 2019 before becoming Nigeria’s Vice President in 2023.
His reunion with his cousins in Maiduguri highlights the personal relationships that remain an important part of his life beyond his responsibilities as the country’s second-highest-ranking public official.
