According to Blaqbonez, Fireboy was the shy one among their set at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, and appeared more focused on his education than pursuing a career in music.

Recalling their ambitions at the time, Blaqbonez said he, Fireboy and fellow Nigerian artiste Cheque once made a bet that they would become successful musicians before the final season of the popular television series Game of Thrones.

However, the outcome did not unfold as they had imagined, as Fireboy was the only one among the three to achieve the breakthrough within their anticipated timeframe.

The revelation offers a glimpse into the aspirations the artistes shared before their careers gained wider recognition. It also highlights how success can arrive unexpectedly, sometimes from the person others least anticipate.

Fireboy DML went on to establish himself as one of Nigeria’s prominent contemporary music stars, gaining widespread recognition with songs such as Jealous and Peru.

Blaqbonez and Cheque have also built their own profiles in the Nigerian music industry, each developing a distinct sound and audience.

Blaqbonez’s recollection has sparked interest in the artistes’ university days, reminding fans that behind many successful music careers are friendships, shared ambitions and dreams that begin long before fame arrives.
