“Cut Down the Waste!” Emir Sanusi Tells Tinubu to Reduce Ministers and Convoys

Former CBN Governor and Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has urged President Bola Tinubu to drastically reduce the cost of governance, warning that current reforms could fail without fiscal discipline.

Speaking at the Oxford Global Think Tank Leadership Conference in Abuja, Sanusi questioned why Nigeria needs 48 ministers, long convoys, and frequent foreign trips, stressing that wasteful spending undermines progress.

He commended Tinubu’s bold economic reforms but noted that Nigeria’s challenges stem from leaders ignoring expert advice for decades.

Sanusi added, “If we had removed the fuel subsidy in 2012, we wouldn’t be suffering this much today. Certainty is better than chaos.”

His comments have reignited calls for a leaner, more transparent government structure.
