Doctors Set to Strike Over N38bn Unpaid Allowances

Resident doctors across Nigeria are set to commence a nationwide total and indefinite strike from November 1 over unpaid allowances totaling an estimated N38 billion.

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) President, Dr. Muhammad Suleiman, revealed during a press briefing that the outstanding payments affect all cadres of health workers and include arrears from the 25–35% CONMESS review, accoutrement allowances, and other benefits spanning several years.

Suleiman stressed that the strike is a last resort after the Federal Government failed to meet the 19-point demands outlined by the association. These include immediate payment of arrears, reinstatement of unfairly terminated doctors, implementation of specialist allowances, infrastructure upgrades, and proper human resource policies.

“The NEC of NARD hereby declares a total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike commencing at 12:00 AM on Saturday, 1st November 2025,” Suleiman stated, urging President Bola Tinubu to intervene to resolve the crisis.
