Shock and outrage have trailed the arrest of a man identified as Mr. Ozioma Okonkwo, accused of defiling his two biological daughters aged two and five in Enugu State.
According to the Enugu State Ministry of Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Okonkwo was apprehended on Saturday night, October 25, 2025, after a concerned citizen alerted authorities.
In a statement released Sunday, the ministry confirmed that the suspect is in police custody and will face prosecution once investigations conclude.
The two minors have been placed in a government-approved shelter where they are receiving medical care and psychosocial support, while their distraught mother has begun therapy under the ministry’s supervision.
Commissioner for Children and Gender Affairs described the incident as “a heart-wrenching and unacceptable crime against innocence,” reaffirming the government’s zero tolerance for sexual violence.
Citizens have been urged to remain vigilant and report all cases of child abuse and gender-based violence to ensure offenders face the full weight of the law.
