A New York Police Department detective, Alicia Stone, has died in Colombia just one week after undergoing a butt lift and liposuction procedure prompting her husband to demand an investigation into her sudden death.
The 40-year-old mother of three, who served in the NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau, was found unresponsive in her Cali hotel room on October 23 and pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Fundación Valle del Lili Hospital.
Sources say Stone had undergone the cosmetic procedure on October 16 and was on post-surgery medication when she suffered cardiac arrest.
Her husband, Michael Stone, told reporters, “Something doesn’t add up. She was perfectly fine before the surgery.”
Authorities in both Colombia and the U.S. have launched an inquiry into the case. A fundraiser described Alicia as “a loving mother and dedicated public servant whose compassion touched everyone she met.”
The tragic case adds to growing concerns over medical tourism and the rising number of fatal complications linked to cosmetic surgery abroad.
