In a sweeping federal operation, the FBI has arrested more than 30 individuals, including current and former NBA players Chauncey Billups, Terry Rozier, and Damon Jones, in connection with two major illegal gambling schemes spanning several years.
According to the Bureau, the first case involves six defendants, accused of using insider information and, in some instances, manipulating game performances to influence betting outcomes. The second case centers on 31 defendants charged with operating rigged underground poker games linked to organized crime networks.
Investigators say the poker ring featured elaborate cheating tactics, including X-ray poker tables and special contact lenses that allowed participants to read opponents’ cards.
FBI Director Kash Patel described the operation as a “mind-boggling web of fraud,” revealing that the schemes generated tens of millions of dollars over several years.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing, with more arrests expected as they uncover deeper links between professional sports figures and organized crime syndicates.
