Former Minister stresses importance of legitimate livelihoods to prevent economic restlessness
Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has called on governments at all levels to create legitimate employment opportunities for citizens, warning that in the absence of such avenues, people will inevitably find their own means of livelihood.
Amaechi emphasized that economic empowerment is key to maintaining social stability, noting that when people are denied access to legitimate work, they often resort to alternative means sometimes outside legal frameworks to sustain themselves.
“Provide the people legitimate means of livelihood, or they will provide themselves legitimate means of livelihood,” Amaechi stated, underscoring the urgent need for proactive job creation policies.
The former minister’s remarks come amid ongoing concerns over rising unemployment and the need for government intervention to boost economic opportunities for youths and other vulnerable populations.
Analysts say that prioritizing skill acquisition, entrepreneurship, and formal job creation could curb economic restlessness and enhance national development.
