Political Earthquake: PDP Expels Wike, Fayose, Anyanwu in Dramatic Convention Shake-Up

Bode George moves explosive motion as party overrules court bid to halt convention

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday executed one of its most dramatic disciplinary actions in years, expelling prominent chieftains including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike; former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose; and former National Secretary of the party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

The seismic decision was taken during the party’s ongoing national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, sending shockwaves across Nigeria’s political landscape.

The motion for their expulsion was moved by veteran party leader and former National Vice Chairman (South), Chief Olabode George, who described the move as necessary to safeguard the “soul and stability” of the PDP. The motion was immediately seconded by Hon. Samaila Burga, Chairman of the PDP in Bauchi State, solidifying the decision of the convention delegates.

Sunday’s convention had been threatened earlier by a legal attempt from a faction loyal to Wike, who sought a court injunction to stop the gathering. However, the PDP secured a favourable ruling from an Oyo State High Court, clearing all obstacles and paving the way for the convention to proceed.

The expulsion of Wike currently a serving minister in the APC-led federal government alongside Fayose and Anyanwu, marks a new chapter in the party’s internal realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

Political observers say the move signals the PDP’s readiness to confront internal sabotage, reassert discipline, and consolidate its structure as the opposition party prepares for a critical political cycle.

More updates are expected as the convention continues.
