Save Lives First at Accident Scenes — Moruf Yusuf

Security expert urges Nigerians to prioritise victims' safety and seek emergency help instead of attacking drivers or riders involved in accidents.

Security expert Moruf Yusuf, popularly known as Ojogbon, has urged Nigerians to prioritise saving lives whenever an accident occurs.

Yusuf gave the advice in Series #128 of The Secure Mind, titled “Save Lives First in Case of an Accident.”

He stressed that the priority at an accident scene should be protecting lives and preventing further harm, rather than attacking, punishing or taking the law into one's hands against those involved.

The security expert warned against setting vehicles or motorcycles ablaze or attempting to harm drivers or riders, noting that such actions can create additional dangers for victims, bystanders and rescuers.

He advised people at accident scenes to first make the area as safe as possible, call for emergency assistance and assist victims where it is safe to do so.

Where a driver or rider is suspected of wrongdoing, Yusuf said the person should, where necessary, be restrained without violence and handed over to the appropriate authorities for investigation and legal action.

He urged members of the public to check victims' conditions without exposing themselves to unnecessary risks and ensure that medical assistance is sought immediately.

Yusuf emphasised that emotions can run high after accidents, but members of the public must resist the urge to retaliate and instead focus on preserving lives.

“Saving lives at the scene of accidents is not negotiable.”

He called on Nigerians to make safety, compassion and responsible intervention the first response whenever they encounter an accident.

Just be good. Reflect. Stay alert.
