President Bola Tinubu has cautioned political parties, candidates and signatories to the 2027 election peace accord against exploiting ethnic, religious and other primordial divisions to gain political office.
Tinubu urged political actors to place the unity and stability of Nigeria above political ambitions as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify.
The President warned against using divisive rhetoric or exploiting existing ethnic and religious differences to mobilise voters or gain electoral advantage.
He called on political parties and candidates to pursue their campaigns peacefully and focus on issues capable of advancing national development.
Tinubu also urged signatories to the peace accord to uphold their commitments and contribute to a peaceful electoral process before, during and after the 2027 elections.
The warning comes amid growing political activities and realignments ahead of the next general elections, with stakeholders expected to promote issue-based campaigns and avoid actions capable of deepening divisions across the country.
The President maintained that Nigeria's democratic process must be protected through responsible political conduct, peaceful competition and respect for the country's diversity.
