Okunola Tobi Emmanuel, popularly known as Kelty, is fast emerging as one of Lagos’ most exciting musical talents. Born and raised in Bariga, Lagos State, Kelty’s journey into music began at the age of 16 when he recorded his first studio track with Anchorpodian in 2012.
His early career was far from easy. During his struggling phase, Kelty had no roof over his head, sometimes slept in garages in Ojota, and relied on keke napep vehicles for shelter. Access to food and medical attention was a constant challenge, but his determination to create music never wavered.
While facing these hardships, Kelty worked at Bheerhugz Cafe in Ikeja City Mall to sustain himself. It was also during this period that he connected with Agent Teepee, the manager of the late Rap and Hip Hop sensation Da’Grin, via Instagram through Dotman’s freestyle post. Recognizing Kelty’s potential, Agent Teepee offered both financial support and promotional assistance, helping him gain wider visibility online.
Kelty’s life took another positive turn when he met Kaycee, who invited him to stay at his barbing salon, and through him, he connected with Tosin Lawal, a barber and mentor. Tosin introduced Kelty to Mr. Banire Olayinka Sharafa, founder of Byinks Foundation and CEO of OJANigeria, who became a pivotal supporter in his musical and academic journey. With Mr. Sharafa’s guidance, Kelty enrolled at the University of Lagos, studying Business Administration (DLI program), and also worked as a social media officer at OJA Nigeria to sustain himself while pursuing music.
Kelty’s performances have steadily gained attention. Most recently, he electrified the crowd at the UNILAG Alumni Edutainment Fiesta 8.0, performing his viral hit “Dear Airtel (Ete die die)” and showcasing the humour-infused style that has become his signature. Fans and alumni alike were thrilled by his stage presence, marking a highlight in his journey from campus entertainer to professional artist.
Representing Lagisland24 Entertainment, Kelty released his debut EP album, Life of an Educatedthug, at the Mike Adenuga Event Centre in 2024. He has collaborated with artists like Mr Imag, Koffi Tha Guru, and Ashny, further cementing his place in Nigeria’s music scene. For 2026, Kelty promises new songs, music videos, and live performances, including the grand opening of Bheerhugz Cafe in Chevron, Lekki, on January 27.
With resilience, talent, and the mentorship of Mr. Banire Olayinka Sharafa, Kelty has transformed his challenges into a story of inspiration. From sleeping in garages to commanding stages, he is now on a path toward national relevance and he aims for international recognition.
