Electoral body says simulation exercise will test systems and improve preparedness
The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced plans to conduct a mock presidential election ahead of the 2027 general election as part of efforts to test its systems and strengthen operational readiness.
According to the commission, the simulation exercise is designed to assess the functionality of electoral technologies, logistics coordination, and result transmission processes before the main poll. Officials stated that the mock election will help identify potential gaps and improve overall efficiency.
INEC explained that such preparatory exercises are critical to enhancing transparency, credibility, and public confidence in the electoral process. The commission noted that lessons learned from previous elections would inform adjustments and refinements ahead of 2027.
Stakeholders, including political parties and civil society organizations, are expected to observe aspects of the exercise, which aims to demonstrate procedural improvements and ensure smoother conduct of the presidential election.
The 2027 general election is projected to be a significant milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey, with the commission emphasizing its commitment to credible, free, and fair polls.
