Nigerians in India Raise Alarm Over Alleged Racial Profiling and Police Brutality

Community also cites visa regularisation challenges and high renewal fees as growing concerns

Nigerians residing in India have raised concerns over what they describe as increasing incidents of racial profiling and alleged brutality by local police authorities. Members of the community say the situation has created fear and uncertainty for many Nigerians living, studying, or doing business in the country.

According to several affected individuals, interactions with law enforcement have become increasingly tense, with some alleging that Nigerians are frequently targeted during security operations and routine checks. Community representatives say such experiences have contributed to growing anxiety among Nigerian residents.

In addition to the security concerns, Nigerians in India have also highlighted ongoing difficulties related to visa regularisation. They said complex immigration processes and high visa renewal fees have made it difficult for many to maintain their legal status, adding financial and administrative pressure on members of the community.

Some residents noted that the combined challenges of immigration procedures, rising costs, and perceived discrimination have made daily life increasingly difficult for Nigerians in the country. They have therefore called for greater engagement between authorities in both countries to address the concerns and ensure the safety and well being of Nigerians living abroad.

Community leaders are also urging diplomatic channels to explore ways of easing visa processes while promoting stronger protections for foreign residents, particularly students and business operators from Nigeria living in India.
