President Tinubu Set for Historic State Visit to the United Kingdom

First Nigerian leader in 37 years to be hosted by British monarch at Windsor Castle

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accompanied by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, will depart Abuja on Tuesday, March 17, for a State Visit to the United Kingdom as guests of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

The visit, the first by a Nigerian leader in 37 years, will see President Tinubu hosted at Windsor Castle from Wednesday, March 18, to Thursday, March 19. It marks the first time a Nigerian president will be received at Windsor Castle by the British monarch.

The state visit aims to strengthen Nigeria–UK bilateral relations, focusing on trade, investment, cultural exchange, and immigration. During the visit, Their Majesties will present a special exhibition of Royal Collection items related to Nigeria. President Tinubu will hold private discussions with the King and meet organisations engaged in interfaith dialogue. A State Banquet will be hosted in honour of the Nigerian delegation.

President Tinubu will also meet Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street to advance bilateral engagement between senior officials of both nations. The meeting will culminate in signing multiple Memoranda of Understanding and agreements on trade, investment, defence, and cultural cooperation.

A highlight of the visit will be the witnessing of a £746 million financing deal between UK Export Finance, the Nigerian Ports Authority, and the Federal Ministry of Finance to refurbish the Lagos Port Complex (Apapa Quays) and Tin Can Island Port Complex.

The President will also attend the Nigerian Modernism exhibition, celebrating modern Nigerian arts and culture, and a reception with Nigerian and British business leaders and the diaspora community.
