Speaking about the incident, Osimhen disclosed that surgeons inserted 18 screws into his face following the injury, a procedure that has permanently affected how he eats. The striker explained that despite recovering well enough to return to football, the effects of the injury remain part of his daily life.

Osimhen suffered the severe facial fracture during a Serie A match while playing for SSC Napoli in 2021, after a heavy collision with a defender. The injury required extensive surgery and led to the use of a protective face mask when he returned to competitive action.
