At least 65 visitors from five African countries who travelled to Canada for the FIFA World Cup have reportedly applied for asylum after arriving in the country.
According to the reported figures, the applicants include 25 Ghanaians, 15 Egyptians, 10 Nigerians, 10 Senegalese, and 5 Burundians.
The asylum applications were reportedly submitted after the individuals entered Canada to attend World Cup matches, drawing attention to migration and asylum trends linked to major international sporting events.
Canadian authorities are expected to process each application individually in line with the country's immigration and refugee protection laws, with every claim assessed on its own merits.
