Don't Embark on Interstate Trips Without Knowing Your Destination, Moruf Yusuf Warns

Security expert urges Nigerians to prioritise travel planning, route assessment and situational awareness before embarking on journeys across state lines.

Security expert and public safety advocate, Moruf Yusuf, popularly known as Ojogbon, has advised Nigerians to avoid embarking on interstate trips without first gathering adequate information about their destinations, warning that proper planning can significantly reduce security risks during travel.

Yusuf gave the advice in Series 91 of The Secure Mind, his daily security awareness initiative dedicated to promoting preventive thinking and practical safety habits among individuals, families and communities.

Speaking on the theme, "Interstate Trips Require Prior Knowledge of Your Destination," the security expert stressed that safe travel begins long before leaving home.

According to him, travelling outside one's state involves more than packing bags and making transportation arrangements. It requires understanding the security situation at the intended destination, identifying the safest routes, familiarising oneself with local regulations and staying informed about any threats or developments that could affect the journey.

Yusuf advised travellers to avoid making last-minute decisions without first assessing available security information, especially when travelling to unfamiliar locations or areas with reported security concerns.

He also encouraged Nigerians to share their travel itineraries with trusted family members or friends before departure, noting that such information could prove invaluable in the event of an emergency.

The security expert further recommended that travellers keep emergency contact numbers readily accessible, monitor official travel advisories and weather updates, and remain vigilant throughout their journeys from departure to arrival.

According to him, maintaining situational awareness while travelling enables individuals to identify potential risks early and make safer decisions when unexpected situations arise.

Yusuf emphasised that many travel-related security incidents can be prevented through proper planning, reliable information and responsible decision-making.

Knowing your destination before you travel is one of the most effective steps toward a safe journey,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to make security consciousness an essential part of every trip, regardless of the distance or familiarity of the destination.

Through The Secure Mind, Moruf Yusuf continues to educate the public on practical security measures that encourage vigilance, crime prevention and personal responsibility in everyday life.
