Veteran New Zealand actor Sam Neill, best known for his iconic role as Dr. Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park film franchise, has died at the age of 78.
His family announced that Neill died on Monday in Sydney, Australia, describing his passing as "sudden and unexpected." They also noted that the award-winning actor remained cancer-free at the time of his death after previously battling a rare form of blood cancer.
Neill enjoyed a career spanning more than five decades, earning global recognition through memorable performances in films such as Jurassic Park, The Piano and The Hunt for Red October, as well as television series including Peaky Blinders.
In a statement, his family said Neill passed away surrounded by loved ones and thanked the medical team at St Vincent's Private Hospital in Sydney for their care. They requested privacy as they mourn his loss.
