A Nigerian-American engineer and Harvard graduate, Yinka Ogunbiyi, has developed HaloBraid, described as the world’s first braid-assist robot designed to support hairstylists by reducing physical strain and saving time in salons.
The innovation is designed to make the hair-braiding process more efficient by assisting stylists with repetitive tasks, helping to improve productivity while easing the physical demands associated with long hours of braiding.
HaloBraid has already attracted significant investor interest, raising $7 million in funding. The startup has also recorded strong market demand, with more than 7,000 salons reportedly joining its waitlist ahead of the product’s commercial rollout.
The development marks a significant milestone in beauty technology, highlighting how robotics and artificial intelligence are increasingly being integrated into everyday industries to enhance productivity and transform traditional services.
