The United States military has completed what officials described as a "heavy wave" of retaliatory strikes against Iran, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between the two countries.
According to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), the operation targeted dozens of sites linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including command centres, missile and drone facilities, coastal surveillance systems and maritime defence positions. The strikes were carried out in response to what U.S. officials described as an attempted Iranian missile attack on American military bases in the region.
U.S. officials said the air campaign lasted approximately two hours and was intended to degrade Iran's military capabilities while sending a strong message against future attacks on American personnel and interests.
The latest military action comes amid rapidly rising tensions across the Middle East, with fears that the conflict could widen further despite ongoing diplomatic efforts by regional and international actors.
