President and Chief Executive Officer of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has said the Dangote Petroleum Refinery is expected to consume about 2.5 per cent of globally traded crude oil when it reaches full operational capacity.
Dangote made the disclosure while highlighting the scale and strategic importance of the refinery, describing it as a major milestone for Nigeria's energy sector and industrial development.
According to him, the refinery's projected crude oil demand reflects its position as one of the largest single-train refineries in the world, with the capacity to significantly reduce Nigeria's dependence on imported refined petroleum products.
He noted that the facility is expected to strengthen local refining capacity, improve energy security, create jobs, conserve foreign exchange and position Nigeria as a major exporter of refined petroleum products to African and international markets.
The Dangote Refinery, located in the Lekki Free Zone in Lagos State, is regarded as one of Africa's largest industrial projects and is expected to play a key role in reshaping the continent's downstream oil and gas industry.
