The United States Government has awarded a $125,000 Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) grant to the Center for Memories in Enugu to support the preservation of the historic Lejja Iron-Smelting Site in Enugu State.
The grant will support the digital documentation and physical preservation of the historic site, which is recognised for its significance to Nigeria's cultural and technological heritage.
The initiative is expected to help document the site's history and protect its physical remains for future generations.
The project will also contribute to efforts to preserve Nigeria's indigenous heritage and promote greater awareness of the country's historical achievements in iron production and metallurgy.
The US grant reflects continued cultural cooperation between Nigeria and the United States and support for initiatives aimed at protecting important heritage sites.
