The Federal Government, through the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), has inaugurated a 581kWp interconnected solar mini-grid in Oke-Oyi community, Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The project is part of ongoing efforts by the government to expand access to reliable electricity in underserved and unserved communities across the country.
The solar mini-grid is expected to provide cleaner and more reliable electricity to residents and businesses in Oke-Oyi, while supporting economic activities that depend on stable power supply.
The intervention is also aimed at improving the quality of life in the community by providing electricity for households, small businesses, schools, healthcare facilities and other essential activities.
The inauguration reflects the Federal Government’s broader push to increase the contribution of renewable energy to Nigeria’s electricity supply and reduce dependence on conventional power sources in communities with limited access to the national grid.
The REA has continued to implement decentralised energy projects, including solar mini-grids, as part of efforts to close Nigeria’s electricity access gap and promote inclusive economic development.
The Oke-Oyi project is expected to strengthen local economic activities by enabling businesses to operate more efficiently and creating opportunities for residents to engage in income-generating activities that require electricity.
