A man has shared his experience of financial difficulties within his marriage, saying he provides for his wife and family despite having an unstable income.
According to the man, he buys shawarma for his wife every day after work and purchases foodstuff in advance because he does not want his family to go hungry during periods when his income is low.
He said the situation became particularly difficult when their daughter was admitted to the hospital and he did not have enough money to settle the medical expenses.
The man claimed that while he was waiting for his brother to send him money, his wife had about ₦600,000 available but did not offer financial assistance towards their daughter’s treatment.
“I buy shawarma daily for my wife after work. I buy foodstuff ahead because my income isn’t stable and I never want us hungry. My daughter was in the hospital, I had no cash and was waiting for my brother to send money. My wife had ₦600k but couldn’t help,” he said.
His account has sparked discussions online about financial responsibility in marriage, particularly the expectations spouses may have regarding access to each other’s money during family emergencies.
The circumstances surrounding the couple’s finances and why the wife did not provide the money were not disclosed.
