The National Assembly is set to make Nigerian laws more accessible to citizens by translating them into Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba and other local languages.
The Executive Secretary of the National Assembly Library Trust Fund, Henry Nwawuba, disclosed this on Monday in Abuja while declaring open the 2026 National Assembly Library Week, themed “Parliamentary Memory: Connecting Records, Legislation and the People.”
Nwawuba said the initiative is part of broader efforts to digitise parliamentary records and ensure that more Nigerians can understand legislation that affects their daily lives.
The National Assembly Library Trust Fund is also developing electronic repositories, upgrading its e-library and working on a mobile application to give lawmakers, researchers, legislative aides and members of the public easier access to parliamentary information.
A Bills Tracker is also being developed to enable Nigerians to follow bills as they move through the legislative process. The library plans to produce infographics, audiovisual materials and video explainers to simplify bills, Acts and legislative procedures for the public.
The initiative is expected to strengthen public access to legislative information while encouraging greater citizen participation and helping Nigerians better understand the laws governing them.
