New digital platform allows Nigerians to report suspected fraud, submit evidence and track complaints

The Nigeria Police Force has launched the NPF Vigilant App, a new digital platform designed to provide Nigerians with a faster and more accessible channel for reporting suspected financial fraud and other related incidents.

The application was unveiled on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, as part of the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its use of technology in policing, improve citizen engagement and enhance its response to financial crimes.

The NPF Vigilant App allows members of the public to report suspected fraudulent transactions and provide relevant information that may assist investigators. Users can also upload supporting evidence, obtain a case identification number and track the progress of their complaints.

The platform is expected to improve communication between the police and citizens by giving complainants greater visibility into the handling of their reports, rather than relying solely on physical visits to police formations to make enquiries about cases.

The initiative is particularly significant amid growing concerns over financial fraud, unauthorised transactions, cyber-enabled crimes and other forms of economic crime affecting individuals, businesses and financial institutions across Nigeria.

Through the application, complainants can provide details of suspected fraudulent activities and attach available evidence that could assist law enforcement authorities in assessing and investigating their complaints.

The Nigeria Police Force said the platform is part of its broader digital transformation programme aimed at making policing more responsive, technology-driven and accessible to members of the public.

The launch was also linked to efforts to strengthen collaboration between the police and stakeholders within the financial services sector, particularly in situations where quick intervention may be required to trace suspicious transactions or protect victims from further financial losses.

Police authorities have encouraged Nigerians to make responsible use of the platform by providing accurate information and genuine evidence when submitting complaints. The public is also expected to avoid using the platform to submit false reports, malicious allegations or misleading information against individuals.

The deployment of the NPF Vigilant App comes at a time when digital platforms are increasingly being adopted by law enforcement agencies around the world to improve crime reporting and strengthen interaction between citizens and security institutions.

For Nigerians who may previously have faced difficulties accessing law enforcement authorities over suspected financial fraud, the application provides another avenue through which complaints can be formally submitted and monitored.
