Nigeria Police Launches Vigilant App to Report Financial Fraud

New platform allows Nigerians to report suspected fraud, upload evidence and track cases

The Nigeria Police Force has launched the NPF Vigilant App, a new digital platform designed to make it easier for Nigerians to report suspected financial fraud, submit supporting evidence and monitor the progress of their cases.

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, unveiled the application on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at the NPF Conference Centre in Jabi, Abuja.

Developed by the Force ICT Department in collaboration with stakeholders in the financial services sector, the citizen-facing platform allows users to submit reports of suspected financial fraud, upload relevant evidence, track their case status and receive feedback.

The app is also designed to facilitate coordination between the police and relevant financial institutions in line with existing laws and procedures.

According to the app's current Google Play listing, users can report unauthorised transactions on their bank accounts, obtain a case ID and track the progress of their complaints.

The police said the initiative is part of its broader digital transformation efforts aimed at improving public engagement and making policing more accessible and responsive.

At the launch, Disu stressed that technology must be deployed lawfully, ethically and responsibly, with due regard for citizens' rights, privacy, data protection and accountability.

The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Information and Communication Technology, Fayoade Mustapha, urged Nigerians to download the NPF Vigilant App from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store and use it responsibly to report suspected financial fraud.

The launch also featured the NPF-MTN Closed User Group Network, designed to provide police personnel nationwide with secure and affordable communication services to improve emergency coordination and operational response.

The Nigeria Police Force said the initiatives would strengthen its engagement with citizens while improving communication, coordination and service delivery across the country.
