The Ugly Side of Single Parenting — Children at the Receiving End

Moruf Yusuf urges separated parents and their families to prioritise children’s welfare, safety and future despite marital differences.

Security expert Moruf Yusuf, popularly known as Ojogbon, has called on separated parents to ensure that their children do not become victims of conflicts arising from parental disagreements.

Yusuf made the call in Series #139 of The Secure Mind, titled “The Ugly Side of Single Parenting: Children at the Receiving End.”

He noted that every family requires love, understanding, patience and shared responsibility to thrive, stressing that children often suffer when these values break down within the family.

According to him, couples should make genuine efforts to resolve their differences peacefully. However, where separation becomes unavoidable, he urged parents to make the welfare and safety of their children a priority.

Yusuf stressed that children should not be held responsible for disagreements between their parents and should never be made to suffer because of conflicts they did not cause.

He noted that children in separated families may experience emotional distress, neglect, financial difficulties and other challenges, particularly where the parent responsible for their daily care struggles to meet their needs.

The security expert therefore urged both parents, as well as their extended families, to work together to protect the children's education, emotional well-being, safety and future, irrespective of the circumstances surrounding the separation.

He emphasised that parental separation should not become a reason for either parent to abandon their responsibilities towards their children.

Yusuf also encouraged parents to separate their personal disagreements from their parental responsibilities, noting that disagreements between adults should not be allowed to determine the future of innocent children.

He said a responsible and security-conscious parent understands that protecting children goes beyond providing physical safety and includes safeguarding their emotional stability, education and overall development.

“Children should never have to bear the pain caused by the conflicts of their separated parents.”

Yusuf urged parents experiencing separation to prioritise cooperation, responsible parenting and the best interests of their children, stressing that the future of a child should never become collateral damage in a family dispute.

Just be good. Reflect. Stay alert.
