Security expert Moruf Yusuf, popularly known as Ojogbon, has advised Nigerians to remain vigilant when using ATMs and other financial service points, warning that such locations can attract criminals and fraudsters.
Yusuf gave the advice in Series #133 of The Secure Mind, titled “Be Well Informed on the Right Way to Use the ATM.”
He urged ATM users to avoid isolated machines and always protect their Personal Identification Number (PIN) by covering the keypad when entering it.He also advised users to be cautious of people standing unnecessarily close to them or offering unsolicited assistance during transactions.
Yusuf recommended enabling transaction alerts to help users quickly detect and respond to unauthorised activity.
He further warned Nigerians against conducting financial transactions over public Wi-Fi and advised them never to disclose their PIN or card details to strangers.
The security expert also encouraged users to memorise their PIN rather than writing it down and to promptly block or lock their ATM card if they suspect fraudulent activity.
He stressed that protecting financial information requires vigilance before, during and after every ATM transaction.
“Protecting your ATM card safeguards against fraudulent acts.”
Yusuf urged Nigerians to take every reasonable precaution to protect their ATM cards, PINs and other financial information from fraudsters.
Just be good. Reflect. Stay alert.
