Katy Igwe has opened up about a significant chapter of her childhood, revealing how she and her siblings ended up spending 15 years in Nigeria following the separation of her parents.
According to Igwe, her parents separated when she was younger, and her mother was granted custody of the children. However, she said her father subsequently took the children to Nigeria, telling them that they were going on vacation.
“My parents had a separation. My mom did win custody of us, but my Dad just took us and went to Nigeria… He said it was for vacation,” Igwe recalled.
What initially appeared to be a temporary trip eventually became a prolonged stay, with Igwe spending about 15 years in Nigeria.
