Veteran Nigerian actor Jide Kosoko has revealed that he sometimes feels nervous whenever fellow actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele invites him to feature in one of her movie productions, citing her demanding approach to filmmaking and repeated takes during filming.
Kosoko reportedly explained that working with Akindele can be challenging because she may require a scene to be performed numerous times until she achieves the desired result.
“Anytime Funke Akindele calls me for a movie, I get scared because you can shoot a scene like 26 times,” the veteran actor said.
His comments have drawn attention to Akindele’s reputation for maintaining high standards on set and paying close attention to the details of her productions.
Akindele has established herself as one of Nigeria’s prominent filmmakers, actresses and producers, with several successful projects contributing to the growth and visibility of the country’s film industry. Her productions are often associated with elaborate storytelling, energetic performances and a strong emphasis on audience engagement.
Repeated takes are a common feature of filmmaking, particularly when directors seek to achieve specific emotional expressions, precise dialogue delivery, appropriate timing or consistency across different shots. Although the process can be demanding for actors, it also allows filmmakers to refine performances and improve the overall quality of a production.
For an experienced performer such as Kosoko, who has enjoyed a long career in the Nigerian entertainment industry, working under a director with a meticulous approach can present a different kind of challenge.
Kosoko is widely recognised for his contributions to Nigerian cinema, particularly the Yoruba-language film industry. Over the decades, he has built a reputation as a versatile actor whose experience spans film, television and stage productions.
His reported remarks offer a glimpse into the working relationship between two established figures in Nollywood and highlight the demands that can accompany high-profile film projects.
Despite the pressure associated with repeated takes, such a process can contribute to stronger performances and more polished final productions. For filmmakers competing for audiences in an increasingly demanding entertainment market, attention to detail remains an important part of the creative process.
The comments also underline the different working methods adopted by directors and the discipline required of actors to meet the expectations of a production.
