FBI Attributes Reported $6 Billion Binance Cryptocurrency Theft to North Korea

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation says North Korean-linked hackers were responsible for the major cryptocurrency theft, raising fresh concerns about cybersecurity in the global digital asset industry.

The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has reportedly attributed the theft of more than $6 billion in cryptocurrency from Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, to North Korea.

The attribution points to suspected North Korean cyber actors as being responsible for the large-scale security breach, which reportedly involved the unauthorised transfer of digital assets.

The development has renewed concerns about the growing threat posed by state-linked cybercriminal groups to cryptocurrency exchanges and other financial technology platforms.

North Korea has repeatedly been accused by international authorities of using sophisticated cyber operations to steal digital assets, with cryptocurrency thefts reportedly providing a source of revenue for the country.

The reported Binance incident could further intensify calls for stronger security systems, improved monitoring of digital transactions and greater international cooperation to combat cybercrime.

However, the specific FBI announcement, the exact amount stolen and the details of the affected Binance systems require confirmation from an official statement before publication.
