Babcock University has disowned an alleged academic certificate shared online by Nigerian content creator Carter Efe, describing the document as fake, unauthorised and not issued by the institution.
The university said the purported certificate contains several inconsistencies, including the use of the academic classification "First Class Upper," which it stressed does not exist in its grading system. According to the institution, the recognised classification is First Class Honours.
Babcock also clarified that it does not issue honorary certificates to recognise undergraduate academic performance, noting that official degree certificates and academic transcripts are issued only through the Office of the Registrar.
The university urged employers, educational institutions, government agencies and the public to disregard the document and verify any academic credentials directly with the Office of the Registrar before accepting them.
It further warned that anyone involved in producing, circulating or using forged academic certificates could face civil and criminal legal action, reaffirming its commitment to protecting the integrity of its academic credentials and institutional reputation.
