Veteran broadcaster brings together diverse voices for conversations on topical issues, with the inaugural episode examining the meaning and power of forgiveness.

Renowned broadcast journalist and media personality Simiat Abaru is set to launch Perspectives with Simiat Abaru, a new dialogue platform designed to bring together people from different backgrounds to share their perspectives on important societal issues and foster greater understanding, diversity and unity.

The initiative, built on the belief that "every story has a perspective and every perspective has value," aims to create a space for meaningful conversations that encourage mutual respect, learning and peaceful coexistence.

Abaru, a former Head of Presentation at Ogun State Television (OGTV's Newsroom), Assistant General Secretary of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), and the first female Chairperson of the Ogun State chapter of the organisation, said the platform seeks to amplify diverse viewpoints while promoting constructive engagement on issues affecting society.

The maiden edition of the programme, themed "Forgiveness: Freedom, Sacrifice or Strength?", will hold virtually on June 26, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. (WAT) via Zoom.

The inaugural discussion will feature distinguished speakers, including Dimitrie Sissi Mukanyiligira, a Rwandan author and genocide survivor; Dr. Adeola Adams, a mediation and reconciliation expert; and Maryam Ogunremi, a broadcast journalist. Simiat Abaru will serve as host and moderator of the session.

The conversation is expected to explore forgiveness from personal, social and conflict-resolution perspectives, drawing from the experiences and expertise of the panelists.

According to the organisers, all episodes of Perspectives will be published on Simiat Abaru's YouTube channel, providing a wider audience with access to insightful discussions on issues of public interest.

With the launch of Perspectives, Abaru hopes to create a lasting platform where diverse voices can engage in meaningful dialogue, bridge differences and contribute to a more informed and understanding society.

Members of the public have been encouraged to subscribe to the channel and anticipate future episodes as the platform begins its journey of fostering shared understanding through conversation.
