The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, has described the establishment of a passport office in Oyo as a significant development that will improve access to essential government services and promote grassroots development.
The monarch said the establishment of the facility would help decentralise critical government services and eliminate the need for residents of Oyo and surrounding communities to travel long distances to state capitals or other major centres to process their passports.
According to Oba Owoade, bringing passport services closer to the people would also help reduce overcrowding at existing regional passport centres, thereby improving efficiency and making the application process more convenient for residents.
The Alaafin noted that the development goes beyond passport processing, describing it as an intervention capable of generating wider economic and social benefits for the Oyo community.
He explained that increased movement of people to the area for government services could stimulate local businesses, transportation, hospitality and other economic activities while creating opportunities for residents and service providers.
Oba Owoade also stressed the importance of decentralising government services as part of efforts to promote inclusive development and ensure that people living outside major administrative centres have easier access to government facilities.
The monarch expressed appreciation for the establishment of the passport office, describing it as an important step towards bringing government closer to the people and strengthening socio-economic development at the grassroots.
He urged residents to make effective use of the facility and support initiatives aimed at improving public service delivery across Oyo State.
